General Chiropractic FAQs

What is nervous system-based chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is founded upon the vitalistic principle that the body is a self-healing organism. Chiropractors locate, analyze, and adjust the misaligned areas of the spine to achieve optimal nervous system function.

Nervous system focused chiropractic care utilizes analysis and adjusting techniques that are specific to what that patient needs to reduce stress to the nervous system caused by spinal and cranial misalignments. This allows the body to perform optimally and improve the potential for healing and wellness.

Does chiropractic care hurt?

An adjustment will not typically hurt. Some patients may experience soreness after the first adjustment when we correct misalignments that have been present for months or even years!

How many visits will I need?

The number and frequency of adjustments vary from person to person. Upon completion of the consult, exam and first adjustment, we will bring everything together by reviewing our findings, answering your questions, and providing personalized recommendations for meeting your goals.

Most adults and children sense some progress within a week or two, with infants seeing improvement within days. As supporting muscles and ligaments heal, visits will become less frequent.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No, a referral is not needed to see a chiropractor. However, if you have recently had any imaging or studies completed, these results may be helpful to share during your first appointment!

What should I wear to my appointment?

Come as you are! There’s no special outfit required for your chiropractic appointment. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.

And if you’re coming straight from work, don’t worry about changing—your usual work attire is perfectly fine! We’ll work with whatever you’re wearing so you can feel comfortable and at ease during your visit.

Prenatal FAQs

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Chiropractic adjustments are gentle, safe and effective. At Renewed Hope Chiropractic, adjustments are tailored to individualized needs, including pregnancy! Several modifications are made to ensure there is NO risk for mama, baby or placenta!

Not only is it safe, but there are a ton of benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy too!

- Supports a natural and easier birth

- May decrease labor times and labor pain

- Helps relieve low back pain and pubic pain

- May improve sleep quality

- Optimizes environment for proper fetal position

- Improves mom's ability to process stress

What is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment which focuses on balancing the pelvic bones, muscles and ligaments. Proper alignment of the pelvis allows for a safer and more comfortable birth for both mom and baby.

How far along can I receive care?

Due to the effects of the hormone relaxin and its contribution to sacral instability during pregnancy, it is beneficial to start care as soon as possible! The female body changes rapidly during pregnancy and chiropractic care allows these changes to be integrated by the body with ease.

At Renewed Hope Chiropractic, we believe support during birth can look different for every mama. For established prenatal patients who choose a home birth, we offer the unique opportunity to receive gentle chiropractic care during labor, if desired. We work alongside your midwife to determine if an adjustment may be helpful and appropriate in the moment, providing an extra layer of support as you welcome your little one into the world.

Can chiropractic help with breech positioning?

Although chiropractors do not turn breech babies, they can gently and specifically adjust the mother's spine and pelvis into proper alignment. This reestablishes normal physiological function and may allow the baby to find the best possible position for the birth process!

How is a prenatal adjustment different from a regular adjustment?

There are 2 main differences:

1 - The Webster Technique is used in addition to the nervous system adjustment

2 - A drop on the table or instrument is used for low back or pelvic adjustments, greatly reducing the force and torsion on mama's abdomen and pelvis

Pediatric FAQs

Is chiropractic safe for newborns and infants?

Yes! And it looks very different than adjustments for adults, school age kiddos and even toddlers. Pediatric chiropractic adjustments are incredibly gentle and specifically adapted for a child's developing body. For newborns and infants, the pressure used is no more than the light touch you'd use to check a ripe tomato — there are NO forceful manipulations involved.

What conditions can pediatric chiropractic help with?

When adjustments regulate the nervous system, it can help improve lots of conditions! The most common ones we see include improved reflux, less tension, improved latching, improved digestion (less constipation), improved movement patterns, calmer behavior, easier transitions, and less sickness.

What does a baby's adjustment feel like?

An infant adjustment is performed utilizing the fingertip of the doctor, with pressure similar to testing the ripeness of an avocado.

How do I know if my child needs chiropractic care?

For infants, we recommend care when your baby is showing signs of nervous system dysregulation—especially when something just doesn’t seem to be going quite right with the things babies are meant to do best: eat, sleep, and poop! If your little one is struggling in any of these areas, it may be a sign that their nervous system could use some extra support.

Chiropractic support may also be helpful if your kiddo is struggling to meet their milestones, such as crawling, walking or talking, struggles with excessive tantrums or emotional regulation, has immune challenges such as repeated ear infections, or has difficulty in school.

At what age can children start care?

Whenever you are ready for your little one to be checked! Dr Becca has adjusted a newborn as early as one hour old!

Practical/ Logistics FAQs

How long is the first visit?

The initial appointment will last about 45 minutes to 1 hour, and includes a comprehensive health consult, chiropractic and neurological exam, and first adjustment.

How long are follow-up visits?

After your new patient exam, most follow-up appointments are brief, typically lasting 5–15 minutes. Some visits may take a little longer when additional care is needed, such as Webster Technique, muscle work or stretching, cranial work, dry needling, or personalized exercise recommendations. Each visit is tailored to what your body needs that day.

Do you accept insurance?

We are not in network with any insurance companies. We do not believe it is in your best interest to allow third parties to dictate your care or cap your visits at a certain number based on coverage. We will recommend a number of visits based on your case history and health goals.

However, we have heard from many patients that our pricing is comparable to or even less than their insurance copays or deductibles. And we are able to take HSA and FSA cards for care!

What does it cost?

A new patient appointment, which includes a health consult, complete exam and 1st adjustment, costs $150 for the first family member, with a huge discount for additional family members.

The cost for care depends on the recommended treatment, and will always include options for discounts.
